Sounds like 1 of two possibilities:
1: Your speedometer cable is broken.
2: You have an electrical problem (this has happened on Dodges, causing the speedometer [and tachometer too sometimes] to stop working.
But if it's just the speedometer and nothing else, probably just the cable.

Dodge is interesting. It has 2 VSS units, one in the rear of the transmission, and one in the (rear) differential housing on the top. Usually it is the one in the diff. that fails and causes the speedo to go inop.
Check the wiring first, and if it is all good, and the connections are good, replace it. You will have to go to the dealer, because the parts houses don't have that one (yet).

You need to check the PM generator on the transmission. It's an electrical device that is on the transmission, connected by wire to the head of the dash. It's usually found on top of the transmission. It's a cylinder about four inches long.

dodge trucks use the speed sensor on the rear axle for abs, cruise, and speedo. the have a problem w/ water intrusion in the sensor and harness. disconnect the sensor and look for moisture, if found then replace sensor and harness (both available from Chrysler)

does the truck shift correctly?
if not its the speed sensor on the rear diff.
if it does shift correctly its the speedo.
if the speed sensor on these trucks doesnt work, the tranny doesnt shift, plain and simple.
