i had braces for 3 1/2 years...it was a long time to have something on your teeth...yes, they do hurt...not all the time though...most of the pain is when they are tightened up...that only usually last a few days....i did it because my teeth were really messed up...it was embarrassing for me to smile....i got teased alot about the way i looked...i have a lot more confidence now...my son has had braces since he was in 4th grade...he is a freshman now...he is glad that i got braces for him....his were way worse than mine...i have to say yes it was worth the pain....but the pain is not as bad as you might imagine....

I had teeth that stuck out and also had a big gap in them. Braces were painful and when I had them many years ago the ortho that I had was a mean pig. I was very happy with the result and would not have wanted to spend life with the teeth I had. My daughter has also had braces to get rid of a gap in her teeth and she was the one who insisted on having them. The pain is well worth it and these days the pain is a lot more minimised due to technology advances

I did for like 6 months and it wasn't too painful - I didn't really need them though- I just had some minor changes to do or minor straightening but that was like 14 years ago maybe and if they weren't that painful then, I doubt they are painful now - it is not painful to get them on or off - I remember the rubber bands were a pain in the butt sometimes but didn't hurt - no they didn't hurt at all so if you need them - get them - well worth it - nice teeth. People will notice ur teeth forever -just like your hands, on interviews and all first impressions so go for it.

I had braces in high school and it was definately worth the pain. My teeth don't fit together so the braces helped with gaps. I got them off my senior year and had a great smile!

My mom and sister wears them they hurt my sister the first 2 days but they stopped you can but pain reliever on them and dont eat anything cruchy or chewy like nuts, starburst, snickers etc. It is totally worth the pain because i can see a big difference in my mom's teeth with the braces on and you can pick out the color you want and even im getting braces really soon so i will let you know what i think personally contact me or my e-mail address is mia_bria09@yahoo.com

Yes, it was worth it. I didn't get them until I was 40 years old, my parents thought my teeth "looked fine." They didn't understand it isn't about cosmetics. As I grew older, my teeth kept shifting-- I had a crossbite (over on one side and under on the other side).
My mouth was always uncomfortable because it wouldn't close properly. Other dental irregularities will also get worse as you get older, unless they are straightened when you are young. Since I got the braces off (9 years ago) I never have that problem of discomfort because of crooked or misaligned teeth. It is also easier to clean my teeth and floss them. Very much worth it.

I'm an adult with braces. The occasional pain and discomfort are worth it. I'm very satisfied with my decision to finally have straight teeth. The braces should come off in 2 months! Don't hesitate - schedule an appointment with an orthodontist. You'll be very satisfied with your decision.

I had them for 2 and a half years and no it wasn't worth the pain. I didn't see a problem with my teeth then and I don't see any difference now.

I had braces for 2 years 12-14, I hated them sooo much, but now I have nice straight teeth, and I actually get compliments on my smile all the time, I'm 24, and if I had f*ed up teeth now, and needed to get braces, I'd be pissed at my mom for never getting them for me. And, the metal would cut the insides of my lips all the time cause I never used the wax stuff they give you, and I hated it, but now (this might sound gross) I have scar tissue on the inside of my lips, and my lips look nice and plump.

Braces are a worthy investment for a number of reasons. If your teeth are attractive, you'll feel more confident. Poor teeth can detract from your appearance, and people's perception of you even if that seems unfair or shallow. It can even hamper you professionally. Later on in life, if your teeth aren't properly aligned, you can develop other problems because of a poor bite or shifting teeth. Good dental health is important for lots of reasons.
