One number is 12 more than another. The sum of the smaller number and twice the larger number is 39. Find the larger number.

Need just one more week of help in algebra and then I'm done with my course. Algebra has been very hard for me. Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.

x=Smaller
Y=Bigger

Y=12+X

X+2Y=39
X+2(12+x)=39
X+24+2X=39
3X+24=39
-24 -24
3x=15
x=5

Smaller is five and larger is 17

"one number" will be X+12
"another" will be X

2(x+12) + x = 39
2(x) + 2(12) + x = 39
2x + 24 + x = 39
3x + 24 = 39
3x = 39 - 24
3x = 15
x=5
