it can be both... the love you at first sight, but in order for you to love them back they have to earn it. Maybe you phrased it wrong.

if someone loved me at first sight, this "sight" would seem suspicious... so a lover who earns the love is where i'd place my bet... only time can tell...

Definitely, a lover who earns my love. That would be more sustaining, lasting, deeper and truer. Love at first sight would be more passionate. But passions die, and so love;esp if it's not deep, and well developed;and cultivated.
