It is my belief that homosexuality is not a preference but they way you are born. As such, it is ridiculous to hate or discriminate against them becuase they don't have the choice. However, my friends who have come back from deployments in the Middle East have commented on the rampant male on male sex there by the locals. This is a normal occurnece in the culture there. But the idea of man on man sex for a straight person is less than apealing. So, is it really a choice? Any and all answers welcome.

I completley agree that no one would choose a life style that would cuase them so much hate and prejudice. That is why I think that ya'll are born that way. But still, it is rampant in the middle east, same as men having sex with younger boys. Maybe its cultural.

One more detail...people putting down other people for the religious beliefs in response to this question are just as ignorant as those who use religion as thier basis. This question is out there to be answered. If that is how they believe, then fine. If this is how you believe, then fine. I am not religious, and I do not believe that it is the worst sin out there, but I won't bash someone for thinking it.

Male on male sex is more prevalent in the middle east because there have often been shortages of women. In Islam a man can have several wives. Rich men in the middle east often had mutiple wives leaving no women for the poorer men to mary. So many men had sex with other men to relieve them selves. Many of these hook ups were more like masterbation rather than a caring relationship. Many of these men would otherwise just search out a female partner.
Do a google search for the kinsey reports. It outlines the percentages of men that are straight, vs gay vs bi.

I believe sexual orientation is a continuum where some are born at the extremes (100% straight or gay) and everyone else somewhere in between. The closer you are to the middle, the more choice involved since you're equally attracted to both sexes. The farther to the ends, the less choice you have. What you're describing is a culture different than ours, it accepts male bisexuality.

I think there are probably more people in countries with stigmas against being gay that have heterosexual sex than there would be if there were no such stigmas. Did that make any sense? Basically what I'm trying to say is that sexual orientation is something we're born with, but how we're able to express our orientation is guided by culture. There will be a lot more gay sex happening in a country where it is ok than in a country where you can get killed, beaten, etc. for being gay, like America.

You are correst. You do not choose to be gay, but are born that way. As to why so many Middle Eastern men do have a lot of gay sex is a good question. Maybe it is culture, or their way of showing dominance over other men. Maybe the culture believes that a woman is not worthy enough of a male having sex with.

Everyone has their own personal preference. I was born gay. But I am sure straight guys have sex with other men, just for the sake of having sex and getting off. It is not a choice.....if it was, why would gay people choose to be bigoted all the time?

In many other cultures, dating back to ancient Greece, homosexuality was viewed not so much as unnatural, but as a healthy alternative to having sex with a woman out of wedlock, for which you could have been exectued. It is my belief that since, in many middle eastern religions sex outside of marriage is still a mortal sin, sexual activity between men was also not necessarily seen as homosexual, but more like "advanced masturbation".

More importantly , how to gay people (men)get turned on by women, have all kinds of sex with them while hiding in the straight life. If you are truely gay, you should be repulsed by opposite sex relations. Its claimed your attraction to the same sex is equal to straights. Wheres the equal repulsion that (as you stated) straight males have? Always remember one important thing. Just because something feels good, that doesnt make it right. Apply that to many things in life and you will see the truth.

Well when you consider that 62 % of the population is bisexual and another 9 % completely homosexual then the idea that a large population of men could choose to have sex with other men doesn't sound so implausible. What is implausible is the monosexuals insisting that all bisexuals are really gay.

Their culture is very gender-segregated. I guess that can lead to situational homosexuality, just as prison or one-sex boarding schools can.
The Kinsey scale goes from 0 to 6, 0 being straighty-straighty-arrow-straight and 6 being all-the-way-gay. I bet some ones or twos would do things in that situation that they wouldn't even *think* of doing if, say, they lived in a balanced society, went to school with girls, worked with women, could easily date, etc.
Oh, and a lesbian of my acquaintance talks about how it's much easier to get sex with men (she's gorgeous), and refers to her teenage efforts with boys and men, before she came out, as "prison sex."
