ask him if he has a certain video game he would like to play

Tell him that there's no doubt you will probably grow up to be a pedophile or a serial killer because of your deprived childhood, and that only if your father had spent more quality time together (say... playing video games with you, for example) then you would of most likely become a rich entrepeneur or athlete or business executive who donates millions to building orphanages and who single-handedly created an organization that rid the world of disease, poverty, and war. Then, if he still says, "No, I don't want to play," say, "Yes, father, I understand. I just wanted to be friends with you. Maybe we'll be friends someday after I finish high school and I've been kicked out of the house and I come by every week and ask for money. Oh well."

If he doesn't want to play video games, then he doesn't want to play video games. There's no sense in trying to nag him to do something that he doesn't want to do. It'll just make him angrier and decrease your odds of him ever considering it.

Just let the issue go for a while, and come back later and see what he has to say. He might change his mind.

It could be that things like video games are not his thing, you may find games very cool but he may not like them. I have the same problem with my sisters husband, he does not play or know anything about playing a video game, if you asked him what he thinks about the new PS3 he would think you were talking about some kind of new car coming out. But he does love to fish, so when we hang out with each other we like to talk about fishing or hunting because we both enjoy that kind of activity. Find something the both of you enjoy and do it as a team, like my father puts together models, so i love to help him with them.

Find a problem area in the game and ask him to help you to figure it out. My son did that with me and I realized I needed to play games with him in order to talk to him about things and ideas he liked. It's easier for an adult to help solve problems than it is to get into games. Don't ask me why. That's just the way most adults are.

Good luck. I hope you and your dad can have as much fun together as I and my son did.

Leave him alone for a while, then nag him again, if he says no ask him why, if he starts getting mad, drop it, you don't want to start trouble over this, he might not buy you any new games.

Ask him why he won't play with you. He might have a valid reason. I know that my dad just hates video games. He'll buy you any game that you want but don't expect him to play it with you. It's not his thing.

Maybe you should stop, he might have epileptic seizure and can get serious headaches to the game. If you want bonding time and then trying doing the things he like, go to sports game, play catch, the basics.

Nawww buddy.
My dad despises video games...
The only time I play games with him, it's a racing game.

Just ask him if he likes a certain game or something..

try finding a videogame he might relate a little bit to, like madden, or another sports game, if not, try an older star wars game, something your dad might know about
