Depends on what year- the stock engine in your 911 was air cooled, right? The new 996 motor might be liquid-cooled depending on year it was made. That may lead to some mounting issues.
Also, is your Porsche the 2.8L version? The new(er) 996 engines can be as large as 3.2 liters, so that effects overall dimesions as well. I know that the transmissions are different, so you will have to get the same transmission for the 996 engine. And you may also need a custom driveshaft.
You will need custom mounting brackets for the engine and transmission. You will need an aftermarket speedo and tach more than likely, too.
A custom shifter linkage may be required, or you may only have to just modify your current shifter linkage (the one included with the new transmission for the 996 engine).
I have heard of people stuffing small-block Chevy's in their Porsche's, so anything is possible with enough time and money.
It would just be easier to buy a new Ruf CT2 with 512-bhp and all-wheel drive.
