As opposed to principal, private morality and the will of the people. I am looking for a little deeper answer than "that's the way it has always been or power breeds corruption"

Because the majority of the people that vote are , at little fault of their own, ignorant of the political process in this country from candidacy to policy making to implementation.

Here is where the problem lies....YES, a large portion of the time in politics, power does breed corruption. However, soooooooooo manyyyyyyyyyy voters are so blinded by political affiliation, that they will vote the same corrupt bastards back in simply becuase they don't like the party(ies) that any other candidate(s) is affiliated with.

Power/Strength in numbers. Right?!

Some people use a large amount (numbers) of money to influence politicians. (money, leadership)

Those of us that do not have those numbers or choose not to use them, can be powerful in another manner, voting. ( the will of the people)

Sadly, many don't.

What country do you live in? In the USA public policy is dictated via public debate which influences elected officials who iron out the details. If the will of the public is not put into practice we are free to elect new officials.

The "formulation of Public Policy" is not, necessarily "politics". You're generalizing!
