You're probably getting used to the dosage. I highly recommend you not to take sleeping pills though, they cause problems for your immune system. But I totally know where you're coming from, because I had sleeping pills before, and also needed to "up" the dosage. Although this wasn't natural, I found a even better alternative. There is a product called melatonin that helps you sleep at night. It comes from animals of plants ( I use the plant one), and they're usually sold at 3mg. The thing about melatonin is that it is naturally released in your body, and exists your system if there is excess (which is right after you wake up and use the bathroom). There are studies on people who have taken as high as 400mg doasages a day for years, and remain fine. (Excess comes out the system remember?) There are also no side effects to melatonin (possible, but usually minor. I've been taking this stuff for almost a year with 3mg a night. You can buy it where they sell vitamins and minerals (like walgreens). It's great!!
Comes out through urine (not crap...)

It could be addiction or something else. You need to discuss this with your doctor immediately. Too much can cause dependence and depending on the individual medication it can cause toxicity.
I have had trouble falling to sleep in the past and have tried Ambien, sonata and others. What really works for me is taking one or two Tylenol or CVS brand PM. Your doctor should find the cause of your problem and address it from there. Good luck!

Melatonin works well but you have to be careful how you use it. When I first started using it I would take it every day but eventually it came to a point where I was staying up all night and not sleeping! I was using it wrong. Melatonin is supposed to help you get on a regular sleep cycle. I would suggest taking one pill every other day for maybe a week and then stop taking it. You'll find yourself getting naturally tired because your body naturally produces melatonin to help you sleep.

what's justin saying?? that this drug gives you the crappers? and yes, it's a bad thing if it takes you 3 of them nightly because you shouldn't be taking that crap every day, it's habit forming and not good for you. try taking 1-3 mg of melatonin a night, you can get it at the health food store and it's natural, not chemical.

It can be a sign of addiction but it can also mean that your body has built up a tolerance to that particular drug and you should let your doctor know so that he can give you something different.
