The whole chicken thing is just an advertising thing. They don't really eat chicken in the car. The helmets do have holes in them, though. It's enough space to stick a water tube (or gatorade) during pit stops or caution laps, they can stay hydrated. It is also used to get air to the drivers, and allows room for interviews when the driver has the helmet on (when still sitting in the car and someone is interviewing them).

No, I always see those commercials, too, and think somebody's going to think they actually eat chicken in the car. The more realistic it is the funnier it is. I'm so sorry they confused you, they should quit running the commercial if people aren't going to understand.

im pretty sure they didnt hand the drivers whole chickens on a stick through their window...It would be incredibly hard to drive and a lot more accidents would happen!

It's a very stupid commercial. Burger King is a big sponsor of NASCAR and this is their advertising ploy to get people to buy. No It isn't true, no helmets, please don't be confused! Wow.
