What icons do you want to remove?
SOme can be removed as easily as highlighting them and deleting them.

Others, can be removed (depending on what windwos you are running, I'll assume XP) by right clicking on the desktop
Going to PROPERTIES.

Go to Desktop
Customize Desktop
and uncheck things like "my documents"

right now, my desktp has NO icons on it.. but it's only temporary, because I have de-selected "show desktop icons" from the right click menu under arrange icons

the easy way is to just left click, and strech the cursor over all the icons you want removed---- click the left mouse button again, and select (delete) right click... they will now be in your recyce bin. in case you want em back, select the icon, left click, and right click, then choose Restore!

drag and drop them in your recycling bin or make a folder called useless icons and drop them there.

yeah ... select them .. and then delete them ... unless they are "My computer" and those stuff .. you can remove them from right clicking on the desktop, then click on tab .. and then .. from there you can uncheck the icons that you don't want to show ..
