Might be a combo of low self esteem, wanting the bad boy, and being in a 'relationship' in which there is no direct contact.
If a woman is writing to a man she knew before he was in prison it's one thing, but for a woman to seek out someone in prison.. there's unresolved issues there.

1. Their parents didn't show them what it is to be loved.
2. They have low self-esteem and don't feel that they deserve to be loved.
and/or 3. Their last boyfriend cheated and hey, at least they know where this guy is every night. Right?
The pathetic part is that these grown men let these young girls waste their lives away like this!

Woman say they want "nice guys", and then lose respect for them being so "nice". They refuse to admit to themselves they really want a "bad boy". Even after getting slapped around and treated like crap, they still don't have a clue...
