I replaced the Bio batery, The power light will come on, the fans will run for 5 seconds and then shut off. When I remove. the power from the hard drive I can get the computer to start up. I turn it off, and then I plug the hard drive back in and I can get it to start up and run and work and everything. If I shut it off and then come back later and try to turn it on the computer will not start up even though the power light comes on and the fans run for 5 seconds and then shut off. Any suggestions of other trouble shooting I can try? I replaced the fans and I used the caned air to blow out the dust. Please help. It is the kids computer and they are upset.

If the hard drive is a separate hard drive from the original computer, the hard drive should have came with a software and is needed to be downloaded into your computer. If that's not the problem, then it might be that the battery don't have enough power to start up with the separate hard drive connected. And needs to be used with a DC inlet. Also try fully charge the battery before start up.

i hear allot of people putting importance on the battery, a computer will run fine without one! one of to probs, power supply, or a short in the ide cable ( the thin, very wide one next to the power) if there is a short in any ide cable (with drive attached) the computer will not start.

My money is on a failing power supply. You sound handy, can you swap it out with another to test?
