A celebrity represents the ideal you failed to become. So you see your grander self in that person. In the case of Drama and Cine artistes they are double heroes for you-they act the roles of your heroes and are themselves heroes for the same reasons as for the other ones.
The craze for autograph reflects the felt need to perpetuate the memory of meeting the celebrity..Euphoria or nervousness in the presence of the celebrity comes from the suddenness of the experience.( A discovery that you were not prepared for this good luck)

I don't know but I feel that is silly also.. What is the big deal? They are just people who make millions of dollars and we are the little people who finance their lavish lifestyle by buying their movies and perfumes, etc. We are the silly ones and they probably sit back and laugh about it..And why buy all of those magazines just to see what Brad Pitt is doing? He is just committed adultery in front of the world and he will have to answer for it some day and his millions won't help him or any other celebrity who thinks they are beyond human

Yes, it is a big popularity contest. Millions of people see them in movies and TV and that one person feels special when they are around a celebrity just because they are extremely popular in the eyes of the masses. You would think it was still High School.

No one feels the same urge to meet people who are actually benefiting society like teachers and scientists. American culture does suck.

The word is not worship. Just fascinated . People just envy their life styles. They adore them. They are rich and famous which ordinary people can never be. They tried to emulate them. In fashion and every way they could. They follow them up in the tabloids. Because celebrities are news.
