There are a lot of careers open to sociologists, especially in the government. A lot of the decisions that the government makes concerning distracting and where to build a school, etc., is based on sociological research. Basically they do a series of surveys on a lot of problems. It's not just about being a social worker, its also about finding out why certain aspects of society function the way they do and how to correct a problem in thinking or acting if one exists. It's can be a very interesting field if you really want to go into it. In the end it's about studying people, how they interact as a group, and what makes the culture, the society what it is. It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of research for some jobs, and a lot of dedication to understanding how people as a group think and react.

I am a Sociology major and I love it! In studying Sociology you develop a wide range of skills because it's not so specialized, which means you have a wider variety of job options.
The best-paid jobs in Sociology are with the Federal Government, but you can also go into social work, criminology, social research, counseling, teaching, journalism, politics, public relations, environment protection, human resources, advocacy, community relations, etc.
Plus, the median income for someone with a Sociology degree is $53,000 per year.

Teacher and Counselor are two good careers that can be used from your Sociology degree.

I live not far from Clearwater Florida, the ..umm..spiritual home of your..umm..religion. The Scientology's all walk around wearing geeky uniforms with like a hundred keys hanging off their hips. It's a really bad look....if I was you I consider another ..umm faith. Try looking up "Heaven's Gate" on the web. These guys wear really cool Basketball sneakers
Or you could try getting couch jumping into the Olympics. It looked like that's what Tom Cruise is going for when he was on Oprah.
