I haven't been to an MD since I started seeing my ND, and that's been over 11 years. I used to get violent upper respiratory infections at least twice a year before that. The last time I went to an MD, they had me on six different kinds of antibiotics, and nothing worked. Initially, I had to take a boat load of herbs to get my system back into balance. Now I take only two or three different ones daily.
I've used alternative and complimentary therapies to address every imbalance I've had in the past 11 years, including blood poisoning, strep and staph infections, sinus issues, and gastrointestinal imbalances.
The only way I'll ever see an MD is if a break a bone.

Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Michael Murray addresses this question. Allopathic medicine is very good for many condtions (especially those requiring surgery) while Naturopathy stresses building health and preventing over treating diseases. Some doctors, Julian Whitaker and Dr Atkins for example, use the best of both systems.
