Or anything legible? Can I convert unicode to english w/in notepad?

I opened it up it up in notepad and tried saving it as a text file and it still reads in unicode, the same w/ word.

I opened it with word, and picked the 'encoding that makes my document readable.' i also opened it w/ windows default and tried saving it as a doc and it still is not legible.

.dat should probably be a textfile in disguise. Have you tried opening it in wordpad?

Open up an explorer viewer as you would normally do to look at files on your computer. Click TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW tab. Uncheck the "HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES." Try saving the files as you normally do as .txt,

notepad or wordpad would open .dat file.
just right click on the file and click on open with... chose the program there.

and then just go to Save as.... and save as you want

after you load it in Word, clk File - SAVE AS (not Save)

just rename the file name from .dat to .txt...
