It depends on the roofing tar. In most cases is does dry hard. How could you ever be on the roof if it remained soft? I use it in my business for a foundation coating below grade and also to seal driveway cracks. It will continue to have some elasticity but will be dry to the touch in a short period of time.

It takes a few days to cure, But it will get hard.
