Sounds like your hardworking. Thats what habitat for humanity is about getting people homes that will be able to keep up the mortgage and upkeep on the house. Its not welfare thats HUD or Section 8 or whatever its called where you live.

If you need the help then by all means ask for it. If you have to lie in order to get help because you don't actually need it then your in the wrong. If you volunteer on other projects that must mean that your not a lazy person so the problem is not that your afraid of work so go for it and see what happens. The help is there for families that would not otherwise be able to afford a home and in the long run it will end up saving you money by owning your own home and give you better abilities to take care of your children. I vote for no guilt.

Yes, Habitat for Humanity helps the working poor. Two families in our area, working families, got homes from Habitat last week. They worked many hours themselves on renovating the houses (these were two older houses that were donated to Habitat) and will now assume a reasonable interest free mortgage for the houses. It sounds as if your family is eligible.
I hope this information helps. Good luck with it.

Don't feel guilty. When I desperately needed the help (had an accident , crushed both my heels - no insurance, lost job), I couldn't get it. Those who seem most deserving don't get the help they need.
Most of the people I ever knew of receiving welfare assistance were ripping off their fellow man without a worry. It's nice to hear that some people still have a conscience.

With the economy the way it is and people losing jobs left and right and up and down who's to say who deserves what go for it if you are eligible you'll get it. I know people who have had a calamity of things happen like the person stated earlier about being in the accident and losing their job and not being able to get help, it's not as easy for hard working US citizens to get a break when they are down on their luck as people think! I wish you luck!

Part of habitat for humanity is to help 1- low income families if you qualify then you have just as much right as others. 2- it is expected to do the volunteer thing. You shouldnt feel bad for trying to better yourself

I don't think that's a bad thing, ask them to help you. Don't be ashamed that you have to ask for help. When I was growing up my Mom had to be on welfare for a month or so because she got laid off from her job. Those organizations are there to help you, use them. If you really feel bad about it, do like you said, and ask to volunteer or donate money later when you're in a better position finacially. There's nothing wrong with it.

This is supposedly what our taxes and our government pays for. So if you need the help, like so many other people in this country do, you should not feel guilty about asking for a helping hand.

If you think that you need the help and deserve it, dont be ashamed or embarassed to get it. It is even a plus that you do volunteer because that means that you are a genuine person who also gives and not just takes.
