I bought a camera and an ipod, I know I can get the tax back, but have no idea where. I heard there is an office in NYC and since I am spending there a few days before I depart, I was thinking it would be better to do it there, not at the airport..thank you

Your thinking of the Duty Free shop in the airport. You can only shop there if you are going overseas and Yes, no one has to pay tax on those purchases. However, in the good ol' US of A eveyone pays taxes. Uncle Sam doesnt discriminate when it comes to people paying him his money.

You can't get back sales tax unless you have papers that specifically say you are tax exempt. If you are just a foreigner on vacation you probably don't get any of the sales tax you paid back.

Sorry, no tax refund for you. Sales taxes go to the states and cities to provide the infrastructure that you used.

I have never heard that you can get your tax back. If it is sales tax, that goes to the state or other local agencies.
Did the person that sold it to you tell you that?
