Try comming up with something controversial or startling - deliberately - For example, if writing about Proper English,
start with something like " Me are dun bin learned Englandish, bunches gooder " - a sentence where every word is wrong !
Depending on what the subject is, you can choose an introduction that everyone will immediately see is wrong or strange, to wake them up ... have fun.- then explain what you are going to really cover.
A little bit of humour and shock value is a great start !
If you are writing about preservation and saving the forests, start off by mentioning that clear cutting and open pit mining etc. are great for the economy and that the ( nearest forest and park near you ) should be gutted for a ( mining, oil drilling, rock quarry ) job creation project... be creative...

FWIW, I understand that an editor reading for purchase keeps asking "what happens next?" So a story had better get attention reasonably quickly, and keep moving along nicely.

I remember having to translate Kafka, in German class. It ran something like this, which was a real grabber....

One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in bed he had been changed into a monstrous verminous bug.

(The first line of Ian Johnston's translation: Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo, BC, Canada, released October 2003.)

use rhetorical questions! that's one of them
u can also use the onomatopeia device like 'Bang!' or 'Ouch!'
or u can use things like ,extremely short sentences to make a point. what i mean is like for a story for example, start with-
He stopped. Opening the door, he listened carefully. 'Bang!'..............and so on in very short and poetic sentences.
or use action words at the begining like, Listen. Learn. Reveal. It was the way of mankind's ...........and so on.

the other technique is by using the alliteration technique to start it- she sees snakes slither slowly onto San Sersan Street. then follow with a rhetorical question to spicen things up a bit

Please, don't bother unless you were actually told to do it by your teacher. Usually they're just annoying. If you were told to do it something that sounds contrary, ironic: 'All my life I hated parties' or some stange word or sound effect "Blackerupppt!' went the hog.'
