I'm a photographer. I've put quite a few portfolios together for models ... I take them to a beauty college. For hair, tinting, eyebrows, pedicure, manicure and more ... they do good work and it's really reasonable.

Go to a local department store cosmetics counter. They do them for free, then you can buy the same colors cheaper wherever you usually buy makeup. Try a virtual makeover at home if you'd like. They are a fun and easy way to check out styles and colors before committing to them.
Also try these for makeup:

Talk to your stylist about what you can do that would complement your skin color and face shape.
Try the "Try It On Studio" at Clairol.

All of these sites require registration, but it's free to sign up.
Call your local beauty stores, and ask them how much they charge for a facial. Some of them will offer masks and other things, make sure you specify that you only want a makeup session.

I would suggest Mary Kay. It is and has been the number one skin care and color cosmetics in America for the past 11 years. I am a consultant in Dallas, but I know that there are plenty in that area. Our products are top quality and the best bang for your buck. If for any reason you decide that you do not like them...which I'm sure you won't...there is a 100% guarantee. You will get a full refund or product exchange. You can find a consultant by going to http://www.marykay.com

Sephora. It doesn't cost anything for a makeover, and they'll help you achieve the look you want. Plus they have many different makeup lines that you can chose from.
Both Houston & Austin have Sephora stores.
Give them a try!
