I like the new kid at school, does anyone have any ways of figuring out if he likes me back besides asking him

I am the only one that i know of that thinks he is cute! He is really shy and from what i know of him he is really nice and sweet!
I asked him to the back to school dance but he couldn't go and i want to know if there is a way to know if he likes me as well, but don't say ask him cause i really don't want too!!!!

ask a friend to ask him who he likes

make sure this is a good friend or she/he might tell everyone

Just ask him yourself. I mean if he's nice and all then go for it.
