If you took your young son to toys r us or any other toy store and he decided he wanted a Barbie Doll would you buy it for him?

Golly.. I am just curious as to what people would do, my youngest grandkid is 6 and they are all girls so don't be calling DHS okay?

Absolutely! I would also buy my daughter a slot car set if that was what she wanted. At 18 months all he knows is that he wants something for whatever his little reasons. He may want it because he saw Bart blow Lisa's up on The Simpson's or because it is just pretty. For whatever the reason, I don't care. I am not about to make a judgment on a child, especially over what toy he chooses. Besides, if it keeps him busy and out of my feet for a few minutes a day, I say bring on the Barbies.

Oh boy!!! I think you should let a little boy express himself and if he is drawn towards a Barbie doll then really what harm could it do. I certainly don't think that letting him play with dolls is going to ave anything to do with determining his sexuality later in life..I know this is probably more difficult for a dad to understand and to accept. But really don't make more of it then you need to. My son loved baby dolls when he was about 18 months . So I bought him a doll and he loved it. FOR ABOUT 2 Months!!! Then it was done. He is into trucks and matchboxes now. Rest assured...your son will be the person he is suppose to be regardless of letting him have a barbie. He is healthy, and growing. Can we ask for anything else?

Yes, I have actually bought a Barbie for my son (now 8) he was 2 at the time. He took all of her clothes off, played with her naked for a couple of days, and lost interest. Now if you asked him, he would deny it ever happened. Not a big deal at all. I think the bigger of a deal you make out of things like that, the more problematic they become. Forbidding a child to play with something just makes it so much more interesting.

My son has a twin sister. They play with each other's toys, as well as the toys of their 8 year old sister. Just an hour or so ago, my son drug out the Barbie train...I have no problem with it!

I raised two daughters and did not provide them with Barbie Dolls. It's an unattainable immage and I refused to warp my children's minds with it. So, if I had a son, I would not buy him a Barbie either. Baby dolls are a different story. But that's not the question that you asked.

Yes, certainly, although I'm not certain those little shoes would be good for him. He's 18 months and a doll will not be scarring his little psyche. he'll probably end up running her over with a Tonka further on down the line.

It's really hard to say... You need to find out what about this particular doll makes him like it so much? Is it the clothing? the colors? maybe he sees "mommy" in this doll? In any event, don't be too quick or too hard on this subject. With little kids, you can re-direct their attention easily to something else and they quickly forget the item they wanted 10 minutes ago...!
