Don't bother,, just change your name by deed poll to your current car registration,, I did, my name is now SP06 PRD and my number plate is spot on

you go to the place where they give plates and ask for the one you want (in my case it is at the court house) the person working there should be able to tell you if the one you want is still available. the cost and amount of words will vary by state so sorry can't help there

This depends on your state. Ask at the office that issues license plates. In Georgia, it is $20 extra and you can have up to seven characters.
