why does my cdrom say not ready when i try to use? how can i fix without a start up disk?

There should be an 800 number for tech support for your brand of computer, in the paperwork that came with it, or maybe on the equipment itself. They will be able to tell you what you need to do.

windows has a driver. It may be broken. Try rebooting and see if windows detects it.
