What are Menehunes?

Menehune's are a Hawaiian type of Elf, that are master craftsmen. There are some areas in on the Islands that to see a Menehune is a good sign, but in others, they are a bad sign.
It is said that they built the wall in Kauai on the river that goes to the grotto.

They are in fact supernatural, and other a few ever see them.

Menehunes were a race of people who lived in Hawaii before the more polynesian type Hawaiians arrived by boat. The Menehunes were skilled builders, and some of their stonework still exists, but not much. The new Hawaiians were apparently taller and maybe more aggressive or just got to outnumber the Menehunes somehow, and they more or less died out. Nobody knows exactly because there was no written history then in Hawaii. Maybe a hundred years ago when they had a census, there were still some people who classified themselves as Menehunes. Since the disappearance of Menehune culture, legends and folklore developed attributing magical building powers to the Menehunes, and they are described as much smaller than humans.

I think Menehunes are mystic little Hawaiian men that are comparable to elves or leprechans. I don't think they are bad.

The first time that I had heard of a menehune I was flying to Honolulu and on the flight over there they had a drink called a Menehune. The drink came with a little Hawaiian man on your straw that was dark with a lei around his neck. He was very cute. I'm sure he's a good little fellow.
