I'm fascinated with the effect that sounds of vaious types can have on one's mind. I would like to learn about any scientific studies that shed light on this. Examples: the calming effects of a cat's purr, tthe focusing effect of a bell or Tibetan bowl, chanting "OM", trance music, etc., etc. Can you recommend any books, papers, web sites, etc.?

PS: What category do you think this question should be categorized under?

I do sound energy healing. Some of the books that have been referenced in my materials are:

Sacred Sounds by Ted Andrews
The Mystery of the Seven Bowels by Joscelyn Godwin
The Cosmic Octave by Cousto
The Manual of Harmonics of Nicomachus the Pythagorean by Flora Levin
Messages in Water by Emoto

You can also check the web site www.somaenergetics.com for a history of the Solfeggio scale and why they use those vibrations for sound energy work.
