Your mom is right about what is important in school.
However, I remember being that age, and I wanted to look good while doing all that.
Comfortable jeans or shorts are the best bet. Skirts and dresses can look too overdone, or if you have stairs, give the person behind you a free show.
Look for tops that are comfortable and stylish without being trampy. Showing too much skin is a quick way to get a bad rep.
Mostly, you should wear whatever you like. If your style is goth, then don't change just to impress some people.

I absolutely dont envy you one bit. Starting high school (senior school her in the UK) is daunting to say the least, over here most schools have school uniform, so kids dont have to fret about what to wear, just wear what you feel comfortable in.

You mum is right. Its not a fashion parade, its school, you're there for your education and to make sure you can get a good job at the end of it.

UK and USA schools have their social groups, the trendy kids, the geeks, goths, athletes etc. You will find your own niche and group of friends, so dont worry too much about it.

Just enjoy your schooldays, cos life gets hard once you leave!

All the best.

I agree with your mom. It doesn't really matter because most likely, by the next week, no one will remember what you wore. I just dressed normally on my first day, jeans & a t-shirt work. Its really a matter of preference of what your comfortable with.
Good Luck!

High school is so over rated. Nothing that happens during high school will ever matter after wards. Im graduated thank god. Just wear the clothes you like.

wear something that suites your age and what you wear should always lokk like your thre to learn not to make a fashion statement it also depends on what your body figure is like like if you are thin and your school is not to strict then you could wear some hip huggers (type of jeans) and a really nice t-shirt(short sleeve) and then a thin sweater from like garage clothing(again it is the name of a store that has really nice clothes for really good prices) and for the jeans and t-shirt try walmart.

yeah. no one likes freshman. it does not matter what you wear. do not obsess over boys. stick to books, they'll get you further, and you can date later when you're more mature and have become comfortable with yourself
