Well We all Don't Like To Lie But...You Can Say
When I Made The Plans With You, I Forgot To Check My Schedule and I Have A Previous Engagement That I Can't Get Out Of, Let's Do It Another Time..I'll Call You.
If they Ask What? Tell Them It's Personal.
And Of Course Apologize For Any Inconvenience That It Might Cause Them.

I'm the same! What i normally do is phone up two, three days beforeand and ask if i can give a rain check because something's happened and i might not be able to make it. I immediately reassure the person that it's nothing serious however i have to do something else, be somewhere else etc.
Although having said that ... I've now mastered the art of accepting invites provisionally! Say i think i might, not sure, will let you closer to the day. That way .. I can go if i really want to! Not go if i'd rather do something else.

1. Cancel as far in advance as possible.
2. Be honest if you can without hurting the other parties feelings. You should be more concerned with their feelings than your need to feel superior because you always tell the truth.
3. Remember that the invitation was a demonstration of their affection for you and should be treated with delicacy.
4. It's usually better to go anyway.

Tell the truth girl! Say thanks for the offer but my schedule won't allow it. If you never want to hang out with that person then tell them you feel you are both on different paths and you really can;t see when they will cross again. If you'd like to get together sometime, just not right now, say so.
Dishonesty and stringing people along never ends well for either of you.

I never immediately accept an invitation. I tell the person I need to check my calendar, which I keep on my computer and get back to them. If I can go, I do. If not, I decline and ask the person to keep me in mind for a future meeting or gathering.

Get into the habit of thinking first before responding. Next--check your appointment schedule. Practice saying--I will get back to you on this because I have a few things up in the air and I would not like to have you make plans for me that I am not able to keep.
Thanks.
Boaz.

Tell them something came up and you would like a raincheck. Follow up and do some type of outing with your friend at a later date.

Be honest. Tell them that you really have to do something else that needs doing. If your firm and stay strong, don't back down then they are more likely to let you go.

Don't commit in the first place. But, since you asked. Tell them you are sorry and that something came up. That it's personal.
