I am successful, but when will it ever be enough? It seems as though our society tells us to push and push and to be very competative with one another. What is success to you? Does trying to achieve success drive you mad? (It does me!)

Sucess isnt everyting but knowing when enough is enough is what sucess is. No use working hard to be sucessful if you never get to enjoy your gain and your hard work. I know because now I enjoy my sucess and knew when to stop and get out while the going was good. Sucess for everyong is different.....for some its money that they gain, for some its influence etc etc etc.

I have worked since I was fourteen years old, even when in college (except a couple of semesters at the start). I am fifty three now. Two months ago, I quit my high paying high profile job (was top news story locally), after saving like mad for a year. I don't want to go back to work full time ever again. Everyone seems to think I need to go back ASAP, as I am the sole breadwinner. I did not even realize at the time how badly I needed a break. We have enough money to live on for several years (without tapping retirement or other investments), if we want to budget that tightly, but I suppose eventually I will go back to work in some capacity. I have another job lined up and had hoped to wait until the end of October to start, but they are pressuring me to start earlier, probably just after labor day. :-(

I have been so delighted at getting off that roller coaster. I sleep better, think better, and am a better spouse parent and friend.

Too bad this is not the rule in society. Everyone needs a sabbatical sometimes.

yes it does, but I"m a perfectionist. And most likely I got that way from our society. Whats interesting is that in a couple other countries they are the exact opposite from us. Success is when I'm proud of what I did and I think "wow I couldn't have done that any better" unfortunately I hardly feel that way haha

I always strive to be successful in what I do. Will it ever be enough? Don't know but right now why should it. Everyone always needs to strive to make their life better. I think once you stop doing that, it can fall apart. Sucess to me is being happy in what I do while be surrounded with famiy and friends and not living paycheck to paycheck.

Sure. But if you don't like it you can quit performing and become a failure. It is your choice.
