Question

is just a great big bowl of cherries?

It is the title of a song, but for the life of me I cannot remember the words, or even who sang it way back in the fifties. It could have been the Andrew Sisters.

I do. As Garfield said in one of the old strip cartoons: 'Life is a bowl of cherries- if you don't watch out, it'll get you.'

Of course, he has knocked the bowl over by accident, and he slips over on them. That's a fair analogy. You could also say that each cherry is sweet in the mouth, but it's gone in seconds, leaving you with a hard stone, either to swallow or spit out. Thus, every sweet thing in fact has a hard heart to it, to think otherwise is naieve.

Then, of course, there's the fact that there are only so many cherries in the bowl. Once you've eaten the last one, it's over. All you have is the bowl, a sort of glass container made of blue glass, sort of frosted, opaque, the way they sometimes are. That's death. Death is a great big bowl with no cherries in it ;) Wear it on your head x.

what's cherries have to do with life anyway? How about a big bowl of cereal and milk. Or a bowl of rice with soysauce.

no. because life isn't anything like cherries, cherries are small, round, and red. how would you describe life? small round and red hardly sums that up, does it?
