I believe that government only work when the people they govern have the right to believe and act according to morality and consience. Every time a government has attempted to restrict or eliminate individuals right to worship, it has resulted in tyrrany, oppression and slavery.

A wise man once wrote, "Religion is instituted of God; and that men are amenable to him, and to him only, for the exercise of it, unless their religious opinions prompt them to infringe upon the rights and liberties of others; but we do not believe that human law has a right to interfere in prescribing rules of worship to bind the consciences of men, nor dictate forms for public or private devotion; that the civil magistrate should restrain crime, but never control conscience; should punish guilt, but never suppress the freedom of the soul."

Yes we wouldn't have to be wasting our time on silly court cases or religious wars. We would get tax money for all the property the churches own. Moral do not come from religion if they did we would still be burning people at the stake for being a witch. Rome till this day is still the greatest empire the world has ever had and its religion no longer exists so religion does not make a government strong its the resourses and its people and military.

Religion was illegal in the Soviet Union, and their federal government still benefitted financially, if that is what you are asking. The state controlled business, the economy, and all other sectors of their society.

Whoever said, "There's no such thing as a stupid question," ought to try this one out for size.

Or how about this: "How could the government benefit if speaking and writing were obsolete?"
Or this: "How could the government benefit if all political organizations were obsolete?"
Or this: "How could the government benefit if everyone would stop voting?"

If all Christians were put to death, the UCLU and the Democrat Party would rule the country with a iron fist.
