Hello. My answer is absolutely YES! As with so many of the choices we make, the sorts of movies we enjoy is a strong indicator of the kind of people we are. The same can be said of our tastes in reading, music, television, etc.

For example, while recently composing a list of my favourite films (for another YA question) I was struck by some of the patterns which emerged in my preferences. Films like Lonely Are the Brave, Hombre, Manhunter, The Insider, Patterns, Last Holiday and The Man in the White Suit speak to the individual in society. There is a palpable sense of isolation in these films as the central character is the classic individual operating independently within a society he is somehow detached from.

Even my science fiction choices (Blade Runner, Dark City, Brazil, Solyaris) offer insights into the inner thoughts, feelings and motivations of an individual who is somehow separate and distinct from the (often sick, even evil) culture surrounding him. I honestly hadn't consciously thought about this before, yet all of these films are amongst my very favourites and always have been.

Mind you, I'm also an incurable Romantic, as evidenced by my sincere affection for films like Brief Encounter, Casablanca, A Matter of Life and Death, Roman Holiday, Excalibur and Shadowlands. And of course I love a good (usually British) comedy, even as I love to laugh and especially to make others laugh. So movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Local Hero, The Rutles, This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Office Space and Rushmore rank very highly with me.

Finally, my fondness for travel, world literature and foreign culture is well represented by films such as The Third Man, Shichinin no Samurai, The Queen of Spades, Smultronstället, Det Sjunde Inseglet, Gandhi, The Constant Gardener, even Lost in Translation. Honestly, these titles speak to me and, I confess, tell you quite a lot about me, as well.

Thank you for an excellent and thought-provoking question, Kimberly! :)

till now I answer this question,i'm hoping you're conversing approximately emotional tolerance and not actual tolerance.the reason because of the fact your physique has your tolerance limits.needless to say while somebody shoots your with a bullet you are able to no longer proceed to exist.Thats to do which incorporate your actual tolerance to respond to your question , It relies upon on the mindset. Its a uncomplicated tendency to think of that tolerance in the direction of rudeness, sarcasm, conceitedness might recommend that its may well be uncomplicated to tolerate actual soreness On a deeper point ,its no longer approximately being actual or being verbal, its approximately what impacts the recommendations the main as an occasion, a individual might tolerate even the main insulting subject mentioned to him/her by using somebody, inspite of the undeniable fact that it would be complicated for them to pardon specific movements executed to them/their kinfolk/their u . s .. what number can tolerate the acts of terror executed by using Kasab?.How plenty can they tolerate that once while in comparison with insults thrown at them/their kinfolk/their community/their u . s .? It varies from individual to individual This doesnt recommend that actual harm is complicated to tolerate than verbal abuse yet i'm giving an occasion of ways specific movements impacts your recommendations. it truly is the place the asserting "action speaks louder than words" includes play some human beings ever say "words might properly be forgiven yet movements can't" yet on an exceptionally uncomplicated on an accepted basis foundation of existence, words have a tendency to electrify the recommendations extra frequently than actual movements.some human beings have suffered a number of actual injuries yet that looks much less "painful" for them than those the place they have been abused and crushed. The results of abuse makes the style of value!!! it truly is the place the asserting "Pen is mightier than sword" includes play On the two events, all of it boils right down to what impacts the recommendations the main. The words have an result extra frequently than movements. So in accordance with this, you have your tolerance point

"Hey Kimberly! This could definitely be a yes; however, when you consider movies like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Pirate Movie, and lots of others that draw big bucks, I believe that most of us are cut from the same mold. I had to see 'um like everybody else.
Many movies are targeted towards specific groups of goers and often skirt the edges of profitability and are not frequented by the mainstream. There are even movies for the fringe population. Take The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for example. The first showings drew many youngsters under 17 that could sneak their way in. It became a cult hit with blood and guts lovers of that age.
I finally took a peek. It was a gory tale of a killer that defies righteous death from the vengence of his victims (whom he mutilates). I cared little for the flick. It appealed little to my sensibilities. I don't have the right personality for it. It wasn't amusing in the least, but, it made all kinds of money off the 12 to 17 year olds. Some of that first group were who, now, we call "Goths." The movie didn't even cost $100,000 to make. After all, it was an artist who said, "Movies are for those too dumb to read." I don't know, maybe they have a point, but I'm not stopping.
I don't subscribe to that saying because I hesitate to imply myself, but, I've been a reader since 5 years old and I've never stopped and I love movies to boot. After all, the good ole US of A is where movies had there birth. Then, almost every type of person liked to see 'um ... honest working folk, gangsters, immigrants, the Clergy, the Military and many others.
If I were to admit my "type" I would say I'm in the 85% group of movie goers. I love the mainstream movies and a few of the oddballs that show promise.
My personal "type" plays the important role in choice, so I'm absolutely certain that many others feel the same as I do about it. I see movies in spite of what the cinema critics say. Why? Like others of my kind, I go soley for the entertainment. I bother little with nuances of Acting, Directing, Filming and/or Production except for about 4 or 5 Directors and actors I follow."

Maybe to a certain degree. I love psychological thrillers, the ones that surprise you at the end and this may be because I'm analytical and a psychology student. I'm not into comedies b/c they just don't tickly my fancy much, but it doesn't mean im not a humorous person. So I guess it depends.

Not necessarily, but I do think there is something to it. I have a freind who is addicted to shows on crime and law. She comes from a family background of people who are always in some kind of trouble, including her troubled friends. I wondered the same, and I personnly believe there is some truth to it.

No, I love movies of all types and do not apply any of them to my life. I understand the rationale that they are just movies and not real life. merely entertainment

Yes, to a varying degree...it may not depict a concrete image of the so called person but I think a person is predisposed to a certain type of movie he/she may choose for the most part...I myself will opt for light hearted, comedy type movies...I like the lighter side of life...guess since I think about things maybe too much..it is nice to just watch a funny, happy film...that's kinda how I am...happy is just tooooo gooood!!!
