In any local bookstore, check to see if they have study guides by Monarch Notes or by Cliff Notes. Either or both may have a study guide for TRAVELS WITH CHARLIE by Steinbeck. Excellent guides.

It's pretty self-explanatory. Just read it!

If you're looking for topics to write a paper, why don't you find what's happening in the news of 1960 at the time he's on the road, and discuss how that alters his experience. Or get a detailed US map, preferrably of that era, and track the author's location with what's being described in the text.
