SO FAR, I'M YET TO HEAR AN ITALIAN SAYING THAT MATERAZZI'S ACT WAS CLASSLESS! I FIND THAT SO REVEALING..

UNTIL THEY ADMIT THIS FACT, I CAN'T TAKE ANY ARGUMENT THEY MAKE SERIOUSLY-SO "PEACE" IS JUST AN ILLUSION

very well. I have yet to comment on this episode here in Yahoo.Answers.
I am italian, and i will admit Materazzi saying those distasteful things was Classless. Infact, i will also admit, i don't like Materazzi, never have. I was upset that he was on the team. I think he's a thug, and is lucky to be on a Serie A team let alone the national team.
HOWEVER. As someone who has played soccer/football (altho not professional), i know that there is alot of badmouthing of peoples family members on the field. And worse, believe me.
Therefore, Zidane (whom i think is a great player and a good guy - even after the headbutt), could have been the bigger man and saved the reaction for after the game. Perhaps while holding the Cup - had they won. He dropped to Materazzi's level, and lowered it too.

Furthermore, an interesting thing i'd like to remind people. Back in Euro 2004, a certain Danish player - Poulsen - was tormenting Totti all game long. Badmouthing and cheap shots too. Totti (someone who is known for his temper) spits on Poulsen. The ref doesn't see it, and it is brought to the attention to Uefa after some journalist sees it on video replay a day later. Totti gets suspended immediately for 5 games. No questions asked. And italians are furious at HIM not Poulsen. Calling Totti classless.

Tell me. What is the difference here? Why can something that occurs in every major game be punished only when it happens to one of the world's best loved players? And what about the precedent that FIFA has set with punishing Materazzi for his foul mouth? It won't stop other players for reacting as did Zidane for presumably classless words exchanged on the field.

Too much has been made of this incident. It's time for everyone to move on.

We dont have to call matterazzis act classless cause how many french people said that Zidanes act was classless?? NONE!!

until YOU admit the fact that Zidanes act was classless then we dont have to do anything... try and make us say anything.. you wont.. so give up already. we got the world cup title and your player got a card... i think we got the better deal. Why cant the "great zizou" be the better person?? HES A BABY!! that doesnt know how to control his temper.. thats not italys fault!! Players say things to try to get people off their game in every single match that they play so what makes this any different?? And this time it worked and we won!! wining and head-butting wont give you the world cup, it will just give you alot of enemies

First of all,I am Portuguese and not happy about Italians winning.Saying that what Materazzi did is classless is bull. In any sport they trash talk,if you cant show restraint, take your ball and go home.

I'm not French or Italian but I do know soccer. The job is to win the game. Period. If you can do it by getting someone to do something stupid then that's a smart move. Think about what a stupid move Zidane made. He should have shut his mouth and do his best to win the game for his teammates and his country. He could always had catched up with Materazzi after the game. Instead he gets ejected and then he's not there to kick the penalties. DUMB

Materazzi is a genius. He got Zidane sent off, didn't he? He ended the career of the great Zidane in one classless act of violence coupled with stupidity. Regardless of what was said, Zidane is not a child. He didn't have to react the way he did.

I believe that I have used the word "ignorant" in the past to describe Marco's comments. It would be nice if a French supporter admitted something negative about their "perfect" team.
Like perhaps saying Zizou was classless for what he did instead of saying he acted with honour. If that's not a laughable double standard I don't know what is.

I have to agree with RO35...Many Italians have admitted that what Materazzi did was wrong, and I happen to be one of them, but no French person has ever admitted that Zidane was also wrong. So how is there ever going to be peace if there's no compromise!

Zizou's act was so classless that it covered up all of Materazzi's classlesness. i think thats pretty damb obvious.

Yea dude I totally agree with you. Im not saying ALL italians are like this, but most of them wont admit when thier wrong because they think thier the perfect race. I still think that Zidane shoudlve controlled himself and kicked the **** out of him after the game, but I wouldnt blame him for getting mad about what that little scumbag said. And i do find it funny that they call what zidane did classless, but they totally ignore the fact that meterazzi lowered himself to the point of purposely trying to piss him off to get him distracted from his game and insulting his mother and dead sister. I think thats MUCH MORE CLASSLESS THAN A HEADBUTT.
