A possession reciever is one who use their route running and hands as a means to get open in space and make receptions. They do not usually have the speed to beat defenses deep. Now, Stokely is NOT a possession reciever, he is a slot guy with speed far superior to a possession reciever. I would say Reggie Wayne is more of a possession reciever than Stokely.

A posession receiver is a guy with great hands but typically not fast(as far as receivers go.) Such receivers tend to have decent size and can be relied upon to catch the ball so long as it is anywhere near them. Examples include Wayne Chrebet, Brandon Stokley and lately Eric Moulds...

It means he is not as fast but strong. He can catch in a bind and come out of a hard hit with possession. He also knows how to tuck and protect the ball on the run. Manning needs to learn that skill, have y'all seen him run?

a possession reciever is a reciever who is going to catch the ball, and keep it. there are speed recievers who are fast and will try to run just as they catch the ball, and this will cause incomplete passes or fumbles. so he will catch the ball tuck it in and then run.

It means he doesn't have break away speed to burn opposing defenses, but he can make the tough catch you need to move the chains for a first down.
