When someone says "Where's the thread?" online what do they mean?

A thread to me as a notorious roleplayer is a story line. You post to a thread, i.e., add to moving the thread in this or that direction. A finished thread consists of all the messages posted to it.

A message is what I am typing now, and a thread is a compilation of messages starting with the initial question/comment posted by someone (you in this case) and the answers or other comments posted by others.

Any harmful file or code message can be called as thread.
