These are traffic lanes where only cars with two or more passengers (carpooling) can drive in. These lanes are not as congested as other lanes and are designed to encourage carpooling. Carpooling is encouraged by governments and communities because of the healthy impact on the environment.

just another way the city, state, country you live in tries to get you to carpool..
sounds great in thoery - a special lane for those few that have 1 or more passengers in their vehicle - this special lane actually is promoted as a way to get you to your destination faster...
in reality... it another way for you to miss your exit, be late for work when (god forbid) someone in front of you has a flat (or something worse.. once your in the HOV lane you are supposed to exit by valid marked exits only - otherwise you are in violation and can recieve a ticket....
i rarely rarely took the HOV lane in Dallas - as long as i bypassed 635 i never had a problem....
i hope and pray other city's have it better under control than Dallas does....

They're also called "HOV" lanes- usually found on the extreme left side of urban freeways or parkways. The cars that travel in those lanes MUST have 2 or more people in them- or they'll be ticketed.
