I'm fascinated with the effect that sounds of vaious types can have on one's mind. I would like to learn about any scientific studies that shed light on this. Besides the effects of music, other examples are: the calming effects of a cat's purr, tthe focusing effect of a bell or Tibetan bowl, chanting "OM", trance music, etc., etc. Can you recommend any books, papers, web sites, etc.?

PS: What category do you think this question should be categorized under?

There is a great book on psychological-spiritual uses of sounds and rhythm called "Taketina" by Reihnard Flatischer. I have purchased it from Amazon.
