Assume it was a choice as an elective in high school or as a language requirment choice in college. It's paid for out of your tuition, and you can choose any language besides your own. Would you pick Latin?

Feel free to tell me why or why not.

I would! Latin is the basis for a lot of medical terms, anatomical terms, and pretty much everything in science! It's also so closely related to foreign languages, like spanish, french, and Italian. I would love to study latin and be better able to understand why english words have been formed in this way! Out of curiosity and love of language, I would definitely take latin!

Well not if I could pick any language I wanted. There are so many speaking languages that I would much rather learn and would be more useful to me. Chinese, Thai, Arabic, Dutch, ect. Latin would be useful if I were studying to be a doctor or something but thats about it. I would like to learn but even as far as written language I'd prefer the dead Greek and Hebrew which would come in handy in Biblical studies over Latin. If I wasn't given a choice in languages then I would accept the offer to be taught Latin though. In high school I took Spanish because it was all that was offered but in college I chose Japanese. I didn't pursue these much and forgot a lot but don't regret taking them and I'm sure Latin wouldn't be something I regretted either.

I would and I did. I took Latin 1 and 2 in high school. I also took Latin Derivatives in college. Some say it is a dead language, but if you know Latin you can determine the meanings of words in many languages because they have their roots in Latin.

Yes. It's very interesting and useful for helping to understand the etymology of words and in science Latin along with Greek are the basis for taxonomy.
