My daughter's father never sees our daughter (9), he lives in another state. She does get a check every month from his social security for him being now disable. My boyfriend wants to adopt her when we get married and become her legal father? Will she lose that check? We are going to put it toward her college.

I know he could get custody because, we have not seen her Dad in years and he has not contacted her. I hate to she her keep wishing she had a Dad.

thylawyer. Assuming my 9 year old is not working and supporting herself and if the money would be used for her college, then he would be supporting her, YES.. What a wonderful man.!!

your boyfriend cant adopt her unless her father signs away his legal rights to her. If he signs those away then she is no longer entitled to anything from him (Social security or child support).

She will lose it on adoption, when she turns 18 or when she becomes emancipated (marries or joins the amed forces or gets a job and supports herself). He can't adopt her without the consent of the father unless there is a hearing before a judge who decides it would be in her best interest.

So he wants to adopt her but not be responsible for her support? What a nice guy.

yes she will lose the check.

by adopting her he (the ex) would have to give up his parental rights.
