I just had this discussion with my siblings awhile back. We all agreed that "the Changeling" with George C. Scott was one of the scariest movies we had ever seen.

Wrong Turn
I mean can you imagine that? Getting lost and some hillbilly redneck trying to kill you that was so screwed up looking that you actually would rather die than looking at them. Also Wolfe Creek was pretty creepy. Hostile too but Wrong Turn really scares me because it could actually happen , I live in the south and have takin shortcuts so many times, well lets just say I never do anymore , hahaha.

Wait Until Dark. Classic Audrey Hepburn - she's blind and this guy wants to steal a doll that's filled with heroin that she has in her house. It's SO freaky, especially this one part near the end where she hides behind a fridge door... but I won't spoil it! Check it out, seriously.

For me, it was the Ring. It was such an unlikely instance but when you let yourself believe it for just one second, it overthrows you with paranoia. I have always loved the application of dead little girls, I've even tried to become what I fear. Still, the way she crawled out of the T.V. it was inhuman but with a human look to her, completely threw me off.

good question. i would have to say the exorcist, simply because it doesnt use typical scare tactics. while it uses jumpy scenes, and gore. it also uses a great deal of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, i think that can add a lot to a movie.

For me it was "Candy Man". I watched it in the dark, late at night with all the lights turned off. I guess it was scary to me because it was more real. It could really happen.
