We should have the right to protect ourselves. even with guns.
My dad is a gunsmith. I hear this debate ALL the time. I get sooo tired of people thinking that we need to get rid of guns.
Think of it this way......If guns are outlawed...only outlaws will have guns!
My dad made a really good point several years ago. If we take away all guns, then the bad guys will use knives. If you take away all knives, they will use baseball bats. If you take away the baseball bats they will use their bare hands. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, PEOPLE WILL KILL. For that reason, I feel we should be able to protect ourselves with a gun.
If someone comes into my home with the intent to kill, I want to know that I have something that is going to make them think twice about the actions they are about to take. If he has a gun and Me a knife....whose gonna win?
thanks for letting me vent...............

The obvious answer is yes ..... if we want the world to disarm, we must look to the most powerful nation to get their own house in order first. I understand and respect that they are proud of their constitution but the guns are better left behind in the spaghetti western days. The big problem with that however is enforcement. How on earth do you enforce a thing like that? But is is quite plain that for every gun that lies in a bedside drawer or cabinet, someone has a chance of being killed. Here in the UK, we have strict gun laws and they work to an extent ... the only unlicensed people will be the criminals hopefully. And gun crime is I understand still comparatively rare. God knows how that would escalate if we had the US's right to bear arms. So the answer to your question is yes but it's going to take a good generation to enforce I think.
Sorry .,,,, you wanted a straight yes or no ... but it's not that simple!!

answering yes or no does not provide debateable information. my opinion is that this is an informative site so i will disregaurd those instructions.
No. if the US social climate were different, then i would say yes. But it isn't. As it s today, i see that if we took away the right to bear arms, the criminals and the police would be the only ones left with guns. as it is, law abiding citizens would be the only ones to obey this amendment and the point of having the right to bear arms would be lost. also, who is to say in this day and age there is always a differece between certain law enforcers and criminals?
just some thoughts.

The first amendment(press, religion, assembly, speech and right to petioin government) was put first for a reason. It is the most important. The second amendment (right to bear arms) was put second so we could defend the first and is equally important. NO Leave it the way it is. It is impossible to ban something already here and passing laws only hurts the lawful, coacaine is iilegal and yet the US consumes more than any other country. Laws are useless.

We have a mad man walk into a small scottish primary school and we ban handguns without haste. The US have these sort of things happening on a yearly basis with smaller incidents everyday. Its all about culture, Americans are brought up to know their right to use guns and aren't affraid to use them, in this country (UK) we left those days far behind and would like for it to remain so, as seen with the rapid response to Dunblane. However it is a sad fact that with the popularity of American culture here today, we see many teenages finding guns sexy.

NO! Right to bear arms is the reason many big countries consider us a very dangerous opponent. They know if they step into this country and try to take over, they won't only have to deals with our military and polices, but also our armed civilians.

no, because what will happen to the people who don't turn over there guns? also one of the most import parts of the constitution say we should be allowed militia's so that if our government becomes corrupt we will have a way to overthrow them and reconstruct our country, maybe you are ready for complete mind control but i'm not, another point is this, If I am gonna rob a house, two look alike, one has a Nra sticker on the front door, hmm lets see, they might have a gun I don't think i am gonna rob that one, but if guns are outlawed then i can rob anyone, because I know no one has a gun but me.

Yes, give people a deadline to turn their guns in...after than anyone who has one gets a hefty fine or jail term...I'm sure you'll find a way to protect yourself with a good old pitchfork or something.
Paranoia will destroy ya....
