An old room mate of mine was going to be on the show. If you call they actually ask you if you will throw things, hit, cause drama and the like. They even asked my friend if he could find someone older to pretend to be his fiance.

Some of it may be fake, but I've acutally seen some families act exactly like some of those on Jerry Springer. I use to think it was all fake until I experienced some very strange, disfunctional people behaving the same way in real life. It was quite a cultural shock.
But yeah, I'm sure a lot of it is fake now. Especially after how you explained it.

I think you are exactly right.
They only push, shove, slap, nothing that can cause real injury. You ever watch the security guys who are supposed to control the situation? They are laughing or have a smirk on their faces most of the time. They are enjoying it as much as the audience.
Jerry's commentary (to bring some understanding and compassion) at the end of each show? Please! LOL
Even though it's fake and alot of people know that, they still find it entertaining. Maybe it's because it's so outrageous and it's about someone else's dirty laundry. Maybe that is what holds people's curiousity and interest.

I used to think the same way as you and really thought Jerry Springer was a fake show as well until one day I was watching the Maury Show and he had the same women from the JS show come to his and shared the same story. It was realistic. I know the people on the show is so weird you think 'where do they find these people, it must be BOGUS' but it's all real I believe :)

The Jerry springer show is a good show to watch if a person has low self esteem. The things portrayed on that show are so ridiculous that any person who watches it cannot help but say " I'm okay because at least I'm not that stupid" It should get a rating as the best self esteem booster on television today.

I don't think that it's fake in that the producers go out and hire actors. I think the guests act in the way they think they are supposed to based on watching the show. The show is choreographed and edited in a way to maximize it's entertainment value. In that respect it is nit much different from Survivor or any other "reality" show. The difference is on Survivor there are no chairs so they can't hit each other with them.

I can't believe this show is still on the air. On shows like these, I believe there must be coaching behind the scenes to act more aggressively because they seem to really go over the top when they come out on stage. Viewers seem to enjoy this kind of drama which boosts the ratings. These people get paid to appear on these shows and since they are the dregs of society, the more money they get, the more they are going to act like buffoons.

Any Talk show is all smoke and mirrors and they are just trying to illicit a prescribed response.
They do not care about you or anyone else except their ratings and what they have to do to keep them up high enough to not get canceled by their network.
Is it a quality show? I think not. It is fake? Absolutely. Do I watch it? No, to me that would be a waste of time and electricity.

Some of it has to be fake. But sometimes you can tell when someone has really been hurt by what they have heard. I think that show prays on the weak in our society and that's sad.
I have wondered how much longer will it be before someone gets killed like what happened to the Jenny Jones show.
