My kids are over 25 and if either of them disrespected me this would be my thought. I brought them into this world and I can damn well take them out!!!!!JK

Why should they have to? I have two daughters and have been a preschool teacher for 14 years. I have never had to raise a hand to any child, mine or otherwise (of course, I wouldn't have made a very good preschool teacher then, would I?) There are so many techniques that work far more effectively and have long-term advantages, that spanking, smacking, or otherwise hurting a child physically shouldn't be used. I work with children referred from the mental health department with severe behavior issues, as well as those with autism... these are some difficult children to deal with at times, but corporal punishment is not the answer. If parents look beyond corporal punishment and rule it out as an option, you can get pretty creative in ways to get a child to behave and comply. So, to answer- there is no age at which it is appropriate.

Yes. Any age. With modern parenting techniques you don't need to use any physical means to discipline a child. It crude, barbaric, and just teaches the child that it's how problems are solved. I'm not telling anyone how to parent, I'm just saying that I think it's time our society moved beyond things like using corporal punishment on children. My parents didn't and I turned our exceptionally, or so I'd like to think, and I just don't think it's necessary to be used at any time or any age anymore.
Hope I helped!

I'm not too crazy about corporal punishment, BUT if it's going to be used at all, the rump is _probably_ the safest target.
That being said, I'd be hesitant to use it once the kids start getting close to puberty---because they might be feeling unusually anxious about their bodies and the physical changes. (If I *had* to spank, it'd be a standing swat---not turning them over something---too demeaning at any age.)

Unless a parent is willing to be physically hit when someone else thinks they're not doing the right thing, I don't think they should be hitting their child(ren).
And the kid will probably grow up to believe it's right to go to war with other countries and kill those they disagree with.

you shouldn't do at all. i say this because my parents don't do it to me, and i think i turned out ok. if they misbehave, take away something that they value for a long time.
