I know 2: One was born with only 3 chambers in hear heart and was having twins, and her heart failed shortly after the delivery (the twins are OK), and another had an epidural administered improperly and it created a bubble in her spine or something (I'm not EXACTLY sure what happened, but it was epidural-related). Please don't be scared. It's so rare.

It's very rare nowadays, so don't be frightened. The types of things that caused the death of the mother in the past are largely eradicated now with proper monitoring, the availability of emergency operating suites, and a better understanding of what health risks to assess early in a pregnancy so the doctor can step in and deliver a baby a bit early in the mom's at risk. It's normal to be fearful if it's your first pregnancy, since it's a new experience, but read all you can so you know what you're going through. Eat properly, get enough rest, don't take aspirin (can cause bleeding) or other medications, even over-the-counter ones without consulting your doctor, and you should do fine.

I know someone who almost did. Her uterus couldn't contract enough to stop the normal bleeding that occurs after the baby and the placenta are delivered. The doctor worked on her for several hours, she lost most of her blood and was receiving transfusions, and finally they performed a hysterectomy.
Fortunately, with all the advances in modern medicine it is rare for women to die in childbirth any more. The things that used to commonly cause women to die in childbirth 50 years ago were excessive bleeding (like my friend had or from a tear in the uterus) or pre-eclamsia (which doctors now routinely watch for and monitor) or having the baby get stuck in the birth canal and being unable to complete delivery (which we can easily avoid with c-sections these days).
Don't worry. Women have great chances of making it through pregnancy safe and healthy these days, thank goodness! It's a great time to be alive!

Not to scare you, and this will probably NOT happen to you. But I had a serious complication immediatly following childbirth, where my placenta was still attached the the uterus, and my uterus turned inside out and came out mostly along with the placenta. I nearly bled to death and was rushed to emergency surgery. I don't remember much, because they put me under general anesthesia, but I do know they sent grief counselors up to talk to my husband because they weren't sure I would make it. Once I did pull through, I needed 4 blood transfusions, and I got double pneumonia.
This is not to scare you at all, because this will of course not happen to you, but yes, there are risks.
The fortunate thing is that we've come a long way as far as medical treatment in the past 100 years, and things that mothers routinely died of in childbirth are no longer nearly as dangerous.

First of all, you need to be talking over all your worries with your dr, if you're the one soon to give birth. Your dr. can answer you questions better than we can and perhaps ease your mind a bit.
Secondly, death during childbirth is rarer here in the USA than anywhere else due to better medical care. I'm guessing you'll be having the baby in the hospital, if that's the case explain your concerns and allow them to monitor you well. I had a great hospital staff during my delivery.

pre-ecalmpsia caused by high blood pessure is one cause -I do not know anybody who has died but it does happen - just be sure to make all your pernatal visits and have some one near by during the week you are due to get you to the hospital just in case- you'll be fine -Also, I forgot what the condition is called but it is where the womb separates from the uterus too soon a nd this can cause the woman to bleed to death, ask your doc. if you have this and if you do stay on bed rest -

i know a lady that died. i didn't know her personally, but i know her children. this was back in the 80's by the way. she was given too much anesthesia and never came back. they left her in a coma for some years. her family is VERY rich now, but that doesn't take away the hurt from not having a mother. i wouldn't worry about it. the chances of dying during child birth are slim to none. actually, i think you have a better chance of getting in a accident on the way to the hospital.

Ha, you sound in basic terms like I used to! I suffered from palpitations for some years and getting pregnant became right into a terror of mine through fact of it. properly as quickly as I have been given pregnant the palpitations bigger slightly, rather interior the 1st trimester while your physique is decrease than an incredible volume of stress producing hormones. yet this ultimately settled down lots while i began my 2nd trimester and the placenta took over hormone production. once you're nevertheless nervous then see a heart professional as quickly as you do grow to be pregnant, or once you start up up attempting. Ask for yet another echo, I had one months previously getting pregnant and my heart professional had to do yet another one as quickly as i became into. another issues you're able to do is understand your triggers, hormones are a great one, yet i for my area have had to offer up caffeine thoroughly, besides as alcohol and a few foodstuff ingredients. even have your scientific professional examine your electrolyte stages, alongside with potassium and magnesium. once you're on the decrease end, supplements would help. I understand the stress cardiac subjects reason, been tormented by it rather lots because puberty. i'm in my 30's now and that is totally confusing to completely beat. in basic terms understand that palpitations in a structurally general heart are thoroughly benign and could no longer harm you. I under pressure over giving start besides. in case you fairly are that nervous, see in case you may have a c-area, through fact all that adrenaline your physique releases during exertions is easily going to deliver forth palpitations. They wont kill you yet you do no longer choose to agonize the two. have confidence me, its lots extra hassle-free than any persons understand, some persons are in basic terms organic born worriers, and that makes all our indicators worse. Counseling would do you some good besides. something which will help is a good element. good success, and that i promise, you wont die from it, nor will your infant!
