I saw this on CMT's "Country Fried Home Videos", and got to wondering.....

Is it simply baking soda?

actually it's any fine grain material. you can throw in sand and it will fizz, but adding more sugar works. if you throw in any hard candy it will fizz like crazy, but for fun throw in sugar and enjoy.

Mentos candy. Drop about five of them quickly into a 2 liter of diet coke. I did it yesterday with some friends. Got better than a 10 foot high geyser.

Apparently if you put mentos (the candy) into pop it explodes out of the bottle. (saw it on tv... have yet to try it for myself!) Looked like some fun! :)

If you put Mentos into soda, it will actually explode like a rocket.
Drop about six into a liter bottle...kaBOOOM!
