my husband and I help this homeless guy on our street often, just this morning he gave me two candle holders to say his appreciation of what we did for him. I just feel it is something that is right and I don't feel that I am changing the world but just making someone happy, fed and comfortable for a day. I don't need a prize

On the most general level, I have spent the last nine years researching a particular problem in human development. When I get tired and think I can't go on much further, I remember that if I can make a meaningful contribution, there is a chance a lot of things might change for the better.

On a different, smaller level, I learned from observing 3 important people of authority around me to give time and help to people although I would not benefit from it. This sounds obvious, but it is actually rare in competitive circles, where every dog is out for himself. Most of the time when I do something for selfless and kind reasons, the more competitive types around me can't understand it. They think there is some secret plot afoot. They can't imagine that it would be worth building something for the general good, or just to help someone who needs it without wanting anything in return. It's a sad reflection on how people think sometimes. But not everyone is like that.

In private, I've tried to remember little details that mean a lot to other people, birthdays, etc.

Thank you for asking such a decent question.

Smiling. Complimenting. Cheering on insecure people. Doing small favors. Donating to various causes. Buying cookies for people. Going the extra mile to make someone's day.

Need I say any more?

Teaching the youth to appreciate literature one student at a time. Whenever they say "that's awesome" about some words of literature that strikes home to them, I have had an excellent day!

i try to practice tolerance, and not be judgmental.
i'd rather ask a question, than give an answer.
at the time i feel most unhappy, i try my best to be pleasant when interacting with others.
i concentrate on correcting myself and i try to understand others.
if i can't change the world, than at least i don't need to let it change me.
to thine own-self be true.

By trying to be a decent person and bringing up my children to be kind and confident human beings.. I say to them it is much easier to be bad then to try to be good. God inevitably in the end is your conscience.
