so, you have been fibbing for... over 30 years?
I would say you have already made this decision, over and over and over and over again. It's a done deal. You lost it in Nam.
If your conscience is bothering you, well, take it as a good sign that somewhere inside you know this hasn't been the best way to deal with this. I guess this question is all you will do to soothe that conscience?
or...surprise me, and tell people the truth. See what happens. At the very least, you will find out which people you know are the more forgiving sort, and that's a good thing to know. Telling people is the more interesting way to go, and as far as I can tell, the more interesting path in life is always better, even if it is uncomfortable at first..

Was the infection due to an injury sustained while you were on active duty in Nam? If so, then it is war related.
Was the infection due to an injury sustained after you left active duty in Nam? If so then it is not war related.
You have to ask yourself why you tell people it was related to the war if in fact is was not. Does telling them so make you feel more important? Does telling them so inspire curiosity about your military service, which is accompanied by questions which you get to answer in your own way without verifiable details. In such a case, telling people your lost arm is war-related is rather self-aggrandizing.
Tell people the truth, and live by this motto:
"Be yourself! It's a tough act to follow!"
By the way, thank you for serving our country!

It would be more truthful to tell people that your arm was amputated because an infection that set in while you were serving in Vietnam. If your arm was amputated after you left Vietnam then you can't truthfully tell people that you lost it "in Vietnam" (assuming the surgery was done elsewhere). Thank you for your military service on behalf of the United States.

Who cares? Tell people what you feel comfortable with. The word is amputation and at your age amputation isn't a complicated word. The validity of your question is lost because of your lack of vocabulary. Have a nice day.So is this whole scenario a lie?

well as i see it you really did loose it there cause it was there that you got the infection and everything so I see it as not , not telling the truth but telling a shorter story.

I think if you were in Vietnam then you deserve to tell people whatever you want about your arm.
Thank you for your service to our country. God bless you!
